A Warm Welcome to Year 5!
This is the first stage of UKS2 for our pupils. Year 5 is a fantastic year group! Not only do we foster our children’s thirst for knowledge through our enriching curriculum but we develop their independent skills ready for Year 6 and ultimately the transition to secondary school and adult life.
In our Year 5 cohort we have two classes, Deer and Bats. In Bats class, there is Miss Meares (teacher) and Mrs Hodgkins (support staff). In Deer class, there is Miss Arfan (teacher) with Miss Carroll (support staff).
In Year 5, we like to see all of our children being challenged to do their best, scaffolded by our interactive, supportive and welcoming team. We work closely with the schools ‘Be’ rules and consistently reinforce these high expectations across the school day. We encourage our children to empathise and understand people of all abilities, physical needs, backgrounds, cultures and genders and will always promote open talks about these topics.
A Day in Our Class
We have an exciting and inclusive curriculum, which sets high aspirations and standards, through which all children can reach their full potential. A typical morning in Year 5 consists of daily Maths, English and Reading lessons, where we learn about a variety of different and interesting topics. We also practice our cursive handwriting each day, as we work towards consistent and correct use of the cursive script.
We will be reading lots of exciting books, including Harry Potter, Shackleton’s Journey and The Last Bear, delving into the characters and exploring the storylines. On top of this, we ensure subjects such as Science, Geography, Art and Design, computing, languages and PE take high precedence in the children’s learning. We study engaging, enquiry-based topics to really allow our children to lead their own learning using the skills taught. Our curriculum is supplemented through enriching trips, as well as visitors coming into school. Additionally, we are very lucky to have our own specialist Spanish and music teachers to help enrich our curriculum! We also work with staff from Kanga to help deliver our engaging and active PE lessons.
During our learning, we aim to keep you up-to-date with all the fun we have through our online learning platform, Class Dojo. Here, will share letters, photos and all communication to showcase our learning journey throughout the year.
