Religious Education at Our School
At our school, Religious Education (RE) is an important part of every child’s learning journey. We follow the Believing and Belonging locally agreed syllabus (2024–2029), which is used across Leeds, Bradford, Kirklees and Calderdale. This syllabus is designed to help children explore a wide range of faiths and worldviews in a way that is meaningful, relevant and engaging.
The syllabus is built around six key learning pathways:
- The Nature of Religion and Belief
- Expressing Belief
- A Good Life
- Personal Journey
- Influence and Authority
- The Big Picture
Through these pathways, children gain knowledge and understanding of different religions and worldviews, exploring beliefs, practices and values. They are encouraged to ask questions, think deeply and reflect on their own ideas in a supportive environment.
At our school, RE is delivered through a hands-on and interactive approach. Lessons include discussion, storytelling, drama, art and reflection activities to help children connect with the learning. Children also have the opportunity to visit a variety of places of worship, enhancing their understanding of how beliefs are expressed in everyday life.
We enrich our RE curriculum further by welcoming visitors into school, running workshops and celebrating key religious festivals. These experiences make lessons more relatable, help children see the relevance of faith in the wider community and encourage them to appreciate and respect diversity.
Religious Education at our school is not only about learning facts. It plays a vital role in children’s personal development, helping them to develop empathy, respect, critical thinking and a strong sense of their own values and beliefs. Through RE, children gain the confidence to express their ideas and listen to the views of others, preparing them to thrive in a diverse society.
